French President Nicolas Sarkozy was trying his best to get Sunday trading passed in France. It's a good thing he didn't succeed.

One of the presidents reasoning " Far from the sweeping liberalization Sarkozy had called for as part of his plan to let French employees "work more to earn more", the compromise bill will modestly augment the number of exceptional Sundays shops are already permitted to open."  That arguments is so ridiculous, these stores are only given so many man hours to run their store. There isn't any more money by opening another day. Employee's aren't given any extra hours. It's not a bad thing to want stores closed on any Sunday. It's not a bad thing to want stores legislated into closing.  It's not a bad thing to say you are against Sunday trading ( shopping). Bravo, to a country who is willing to say "No"!
Lets hope that the No forces continue pressing the government to keep the current ban. Watering down any legislation isn't going to improve the quality of life that so many enjoy in France.
