What bothers me is Robert Ghiz's comments- " Ghiz said if the big box stores challenge the provincial government’s decision, like what was done in Nova Scotia, the P.E.I. government might reconsider its decision".
How can the premier of PEI not know that it
wasn't the courts that struck down Sunday shopping in Nova Scotia? Fact is Rodney MacDonald decided what was best for him and big business by allowing Sunday shopping. I have to wonder if the PEI premier is playing politics? The box stores may be planning to challenge the government over this decision and the premier Ghiz wants to give islanders a good impression like he's doing all he can to keep Sunday shopping out. I wouldn't be surprised to see him cave in and use the court case in Nova Scotia to allow Sunday shopping year around. If you live in Prince Edward Island please let everyone know that the Judge didn't open the doors to Sunday shopping. Our premier did. He simply blamed the courts, instead of taking responsibility himself.
