Looking back to the big mistake that our province has made

Sunday Shopping in Canada Stores in Nova Scotia recently had to close on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. How I enjoyed the quality time that we all had off to spend with our families. I went for a walk on both days, and it was so nice to see that there was no traffic and it was so quiet. I then got to thinking about our Sundays.

I can remember when so many  Nova Scotians were opposed to Sunday shopping. So many of you weren't going to shop on Sunday but once the stores opened some of those who voted No went shopping on Sunday. I'm a firm believer of standing by my principals and it upsets me to no end to think that others are so weak that they find them themselves in stores on a Sunday. Since stores have opened , people have gotten used to shopping and have easily forgotten what it was like to spend the day with their families. Even some retail workers have disappointed me. I can remember hearing the comment.. "I'll never work on Sunday". Most of them have caved in and are working on Sunday, because they fear of losing there job and not moving up in the company that they work for. Some retail workers have even tried to tell me that Sundays and Holidays are different!. How are they different? Christmas Day, Good Friday, Thanksgiving and Labour Day to name a few are  holidays and so was Sunday. Since the flood gates opened to Sunday shopping, people have gotten used to shopping. Humans are habit forming and there's no trouble to see this with the stores being open on Sunday. If stores were to open on Holidays, the same arguments would be used to open on Holidays as well. If I can eat at a restaurant or go to the movies why can't I shop on Christmas day? Religion is always pointed at the retail industry, while millions of other Canadians such as government workers enjoy these religious days off. Government workers go to church also. Since religion is used as a argument to open up stores on Sunday, why not government offices? Why not open schools on Sundays and Holidays? Why shouldn't Jews be allowed the option of going to school on Sundays? Since religion is a major issue as to why stores should be allowed to open, why shouldn't this apply to all government services?
It really amazes me that we are continually attacked by others.. so and so has to work on Sundays and Holidays...what makes you retail workers any better? Other occupations have the same options to push for government legislation to close their business' down. Why have so many people blamed retail workers because other people are working on Sundays and Holidays? They all have the option to fight for change. We have lost what's important. Family time ,our environment, no traffic, all these things we have given up in this province. It saddens me that most people are habit forming and that they haven't realized the consequences of accepting that stores are open on Sunday. Holidays are next, and I can assure you that most of you that are opposed will forget all about a holiday when the stores will be allowed to open. If stores are open people will shop, most retail workers will cave in to work. If we all stood up to our principals there wouldn't be any Sunday shopping or any holiday shopping. It's a loss to all Nova Scotians. We truly lost our uniqueness. Can we go back? Yes we can, but not by remaining silent. Not by supporting stores  that are open on Sundays. This isn't the maritime way...what ever happened to the Nova Scotians that used to care?
Recently there was a poll done that showed Rodney MacDonald rising in popularity. I can't believe that Nova Scotians have forgotten about a man that took our right away..a vote that we won. Our province voted No to Sunday shopping. This man is not worthy of having another term in office. All you have to do when you get elected is to crap on people for the first few years of the mandate then towards the end of the mandate give everything away to get re-elected. People tend to forget after a period of time. I have not forgotten that this man took away Sundays from all of the retail sector. Some people have told me he has given our holidays back. The premier has only given  back what he took from us in the first place. I can't wait for a election, I have not forgotten Rodney that you sold us all out. I have not forgotten you selling us out.
