Tories support Liberal bill that would close stores on 7 holidays
I'm so happy it's unreal because our government finally gave in to ban holiday shopping in Nova Scotia. Darrell Dexter first introduced a private members bill requesting that government ban shopping on holidays.
I'm so happy it's unreal because our government finally gave in to ban holiday shopping in Nova Scotia. Darrell Dexter first introduced a private members bill requesting that government ban shopping on holidays. Holidays that will be banned include Canada Day, Labour Day, Boxing Day, Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day plus Remembrance Day. We are also getting some new statutory holidays. Easter Sunday and a new holiday in February.
Today, we have learned that we will get nine statutory holidays. The ban will be a lot stricter than the previous laws forcing stores to close on Sundays and holidays. Nova Scotia is expected to follow the example of Prince Edwards Island law and prohibit the number of employee's allowed to work in the store during a holiday. The Tories decided to support a Liberal bill to close on Holidays. Either way it's a win for retail workers in our province. It proves that when you fight for what you want, anything can happen. What really bothers me is, if holidays can be banned, what and why couldn't Sunday shopping be banned? We will soon have our holidays back, but we lost our Sundays. We will continue to push our government to bring back the Sunday shopping ban. Our popular facebook group Nova Scotians Against Holiday Shopping put extreme pressure on government to step in and ban holiday shopping. Hats off to those who were willing to speak out and fight for there rights.
The wishes of Nova Scotians were ignored, as we voted "NO"! Come on Rodney, finish banning Sunday shopping. Make us proud of you!!
