So Islanders are upset about not shopping on Sunday now, they are going to jump in there gas guzzling cars and they are going to pay $39.50 ,plus gas to shop in Moncton on Sundays, because they can not do it in Prince Edward Island. And this is going to hurt PEI? Shopping at the same box stores that are in both provinces? We have to realize that the PEI government would be making a lot of revenue from Bridge crossings and gas taxes. I'm not surprised that the media would be pushing for all year openings.
Big business is pushing for store openings all year around. They do not care about family life, let alone the environment. Think about it. How are we saving our environment by supporting Sunday shopping? Why not shut stores down to save on lights on Sundays?
Some people argue there lights are on anyways. Lights were not on in any stores on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. If we can do it once a year, why not do it once a week?
This isn't a step forward for Prince Edward Island or any province in Canada. This fear mongering by the media about losing all this money is a joke! We are losing a lot more by allowing Sunday shopping. Families will suffer and our environment as well.
In the same article they speak about the Chamber of Commerce starting a petition . It's rather insulting to suggest that the Chamber of Commerce head this petition , when they are closed on Sundays. It's OK for retail staff to work Sundays, as long as it isn't the Chamber of Commerce. We can not always believe what we read in our newspapers because at the end of the day, they have one goal in mind. It's to promote business not family life and not our environment. It's time we stop falling into the trap set out by our media with all this fear mongering about dollars being lost, when we are losing so much more.
